With advances in personal computing and increasingly more sophisticated software, a new breed of artist has emerged who is creating dynamic forms of visual expression.
Thanks to the power of the Internet, these artists are able to share their work and ideas with their peers as well as with varied audiences in mere seconds. However, the Internet has grown so big and at times so unwieldy that, unless you are actively looking for these artists or their work, you may never experience it.
Electric Paint brings to life digital pixels to form an exhibition featuring seventy works by twenty artists from around the globe. The artists in Electric Paint are modernday explorers in a digital world venturing down uncharted digital pathways leading to new discoveries. Their work comprises altered photographs, free-hand painting with a mouse or graphics tablet, and fractals derived from the input of mathematical formulas resulting in fantastical portraits and landscapes that alter our sense of reality.
Andy McGivern, Woodson Art Museum curator of exhibitions, organized Electric Paint in collaboration with the Museum of Computer Art-MOCA, a virtual museum since 1994.
