More than 100 volunteers currently help the Museum in its mission to promote lifelong learning. From welcoming visitors to the galleries to assisting the curators, volunteers help with a full spectrum of vital activities.
Volunteers benefit personally from their experiences at the Woodson Art Museum through continuing education, travel opportunities, and social gatherings. The true rewards, however, are the warm smiles from visitors, the joys of teamwork, and the knowledge that you are helping a valuable community resource.

Docents are volunteers who are specially trained to work with visitors of all ages. They provide invaluable educational experiences by leading tours for approximately 15,000 visitors each year. These tours are designed to meet the diverse needs of the Museum’s audiences ranging from preschool-aged children to older adults.
Docents train once each month on topics ranging from new exhibitions to touring techniques. A class for new docents begins each spring and provides an overview of the Museum’s collections and exhibitions along with interpretive strategies.

Greeters welcome visitors to the Museum at the main entrance. Numerous greeter opportunities exist with a time commitment ranging from one afternoon each month to several two-hour shifts. Greeters receive a basic introduction to the Museum and benefit from a “greeter only” tour for each new exhibition.
