Puppies, Babies, and Art

By: Kathy Kelsey Foley, director on May 30th, 2018

With this headline, I’m quite certain I have your attention. Who doesn’t love all three?!

Puppies: I have one – and she’s a handful, but she’s darling and surely won’t be a frisky puppy forever.

Babies: While it’s been many years since I’ve changed a diaper, my husband and I now have the distinct pleasure of delighting in a grandson. As friends and colleagues have told me for many years, there’s nothing quite like being a grandparent. Agreed; I’m all in.

Art: I have one of the best possible jobs. In fact, working in an art museum environment hardly seems like “work.” The pleasures are innumerable.

Consider the excitement surrounding the Woodson Art Museum’s summer exhibition, The World According to Federico Uribe

A semi-truck chock-full of soft-wrapped sculpture arrives at the Museum’s loading dock in advance of the arrival of artist Federico Uribe and his team. Our empty galleries are Federico’s blank canvas. His critters and figures, constructed of everyday materials, but with a twist, will populate the space to create an immersive, site-specific environment that will not only captivate visitors, but also make us think about how common materials can be repurposed and made even more meaningful. Gallery walls will change, too.

There’s nothing routine or prescriptive about this summer exhibition. Once again, the Woodson Art Museum is shaking it up and keeping it fresh. Indulge your curiosity and senses June 2 through August 26 with a visit to the Woodson Art Museum, always admission free, and join in a gallery walk with Federico on Saturday, June 2, at 1:00 p.m.; he might have something to say about babies and puppies, too.
