Wrap Holiday Gifts & Travel Around the Museum

With Thanksgiving in the rearview mirror, planning shifts into overdrive for upcoming holiday gift giving and travel.

Our grown “kids” and their mates, having drawn names, each now are in the hunt for the perfect – likely gag – gift for this year’s assigned match. With schedules cleared and flights booked for their holiday trips home to Wausau, we’re looking ahead to the next gathering after Christmas; it’ll make saying goodbye easier if I can focus on when we’ll be together again.

If your thoughts are swirling in a similar direction and suggestions could be helpful, here are a few creative ways visitors are figuring the Woodson Art Museum into their holiday and mid-winter plans.

Schedule holiday-season and long-weekend trips with family and friends to experience the upcoming Quilts & Wood exhibitions this winter. Perfect for cozy couples’ long weekends, girls’ getaways, family reunions, and mother-daughter retreats; consider pitching “Quilty Pleasures” getaways to those who you know are quilt enthusiasts, fiber artists, and woodworkers. Wild Fabrications and Explorations in Wood: Selections from The Center for Art in Wood will be on view December 2 through February 25, 2018.

In case you didn’t polish off your Christmas gift purchases on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, here’s a gift idea sparked by a daughter who recently made a thoughtful purchase. She discovered that the Woodson Art Museum offers the perfect answer to a familiar question: “What do you give to the person who has everything?” She registered her mother and a guest of her mother’s choice for two back-to-back quilting workshops at the Museum on Saturday, January 20, led by television quilt-show host Mary Fons. Get Quilty Pleasures quilt workshop details and consider exploring other Museum giving opportunities as gift-idea options, for the upcoming holiday season and beyond.

One couple with a young child in need of a diversion and break during a long pre-Thanksgiving car ride north, stopped here after a phone internet search brought them to the Museum’s website. Their initial virtual visit led these first-time visitors into the Woodson Art Museum where they played with their 2-year-old in Art Park, stopped by the family bathroom, and stretched their legs during gallery and sculpture garden strolls. They left knowing that they, as all travelers, would be welcome – always admission free – during return trips.

The Woodson Art Museum, with exhibitions that change more often than the seasons, keeps everyone happy – whether during a long drive, rounding out or extending a stay in the area, or as the focus of a getaway. Extend warm invitations for friends and family to experience the Quilts & Wood exhibitions this winter and wrap your holiday gifts around experiences to remember.
