A Few of My Favorite Things

Cream-colored ponies and crisp apple strudel. Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes. Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings. These are not only some of the lyrics to “My Favorite Things” from Rogers and Hammerstein’s musical The Sound of Music but also things that could describe Tea for Two, an event coming to the Museum this summer.

Tea parties are one of my favorite events to attend. From hosting small tea parties as a child to attending afternoon tea at Johanna May’s Fine Teas in Weston as an adult, I revel in the opportunity to relax and enjoy conversation with those closest to me. When I was presented with the opportunity to host one at the Museum, I jumped at the chance.

Under the shade of a large tent in the Margaret Woodson Fisher Sculpture Garden, I hope we can provide the same experience to those attending Tea for Two. Come just as you are or dressed in your best teatime attire and sip tea, devour delicious snacks, discover new printmaking skills with hands-on making inspired by Mary Cassatt’s Afternoon Tea Party, and take home a tea party goodie bag from Johanna May’s.

Julie Andrews might be disappointed to find that Tea for Two doesn’t have actual ponies or geese (unless you are counting the sculptures dotting the Sculpture Garden), but I hope it can be made up for with the delight that will fill the gardens on Friday, June 26 from 2 – 3:30pm. If not, I can at least assure her it will be better than a dog bite or bee sting! Interested in attending? Register online or call 715.845.7010 to secure your spot at the table.
