Meet Museum staff members at the Mead/McMillan Wildlife Area for an evening painting workshop inspired by July’s Buck Moon.
For centuries, artists have been inspired by the mystery and intrigue of the night. From Rembrandt and Caravaggio to Whistler and van Gogh, painters have interpreted nocturnal scenes through vibrant, and expressive brushstrokes and dramatic lighting to convey deeply emotional and memorable scenes.
Learn acrylic painting basics during this outdoor, evening workshop and get comfortable working en plein air by the light of the moon. Practice color mixing techniques and learn how to compose your own nighttime-inspired scene incorporating expressive mark-making and non-local color with acrylic paint.
Fee: $60 for Museum members, $85 for non-members; includes all painting supplies. Participants must provide their own transportation to the Mead/McMillan Wildlife Area. Register online or call 715.845.7010. Scholarships are available.
