Oaxacan Roots, Wisconsin Soil: A Community Weave

Weave with community at this free and family-friendly hands-on workshop exploring how traditional craft serves as an outlet for memory, identity, and cultural preservation. By combining native Wisconsin agricultural fibers with traditional Oaxacan color palettes, participants will learn and practice weaving techniques together at the Museum’s Glass Box Studio while fostering a public conversation about migration, identity, and what it means to grow roots in a new landscape during Hispanic Heritage Month. Facilitators will lead this public community weaving session in both Spanish and English.

This event is inspired by the Oaxacan-Wisconsin artistic lineage of weavers Wence Martinez and Roberto Torres Mata, and organized in collaboration with the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters, and HOLA (Healthy Opportunities for Latin Americans).
