Experience the full range of the photographic process in this immersive exhibition featuring Hmong American artist Pao Houa Her. Her’s portraits capture the diverse expressions of community, identity, and diaspora. Visitors will have opportunities to interact with portrait photography as the exhibition evolves in the galleries over the course of a few months.
Born in Laos and later raised in Minnesota, Her’s body of work offers profound reflections on the experiences of the Hmong American community in the United States, often merging personal narratives with collective histories. The individuals depicted in her work—including friends, family, and members of the Hmong American community—are presented in compositions that balance artificiality and authenticity. Her invites the audience into environments that are both familiar and constructed, fragile yet powerful. Each photograph serves as a site for contemplation on themes of migration, resilience, and the ongoing process of self-definition.
Double Exposure: Community Portraits will be complemented by a summer residency with Pao Houa Her. This exhibition is supported by the Green Bay Packers Foundation.
