All year, Birds in Art feeds office conversations. Whether they are memories of interactions with artists visiting for the opening, thoughts on what worked at the Members Previews, or new ideas to incorporate the next year, it not just me as the primary lead of Birds in Art festivities, it’s all Museum staff.

When ramping up planning in July, I start to feel like a traditional wedding planner—cue Jennifer Lopez and cheesy early 00s movies. Now there is no crinoline or lace, but there are formal mail-in RSVPs, contact with vendors upon vendors, and plenty of venue considerations . . . and I did for a moment consider a wax seal for a gift element.

The challenge that I have about writing a blog at this critical juncture—two weeks prior to the opening of Birds in Art Fifty—is not giving away any surprises.
To keep you astounded, here’s what everyone who holds the Museum near and dear needs to know:
September 2025 marks the start of the fiftieth edition of both Birds in Art and the fiftieth year of the opening of the Leigh Yawkey Woodosn Art Museum.
The exhibition features 101 juried artworks in addition to new or Woodson Art Museum permanent collection artworks highlighting every past Master Wildlife Artist.
Over 85 artists will be in attendance during the opening weekend starting with the Members Preview on Thursday, September 4 through the opening day on Saturday, September 6.
For Museum members—okay I’ve got one spoiler—pay attention to how the mailed invitations “theme” connects with elements big and the finer details.

Opening Day, Saturday, September 6 will feature a special presentation at 9:30 am from an acclaimed guest, followed by Artists in Action at 10:45 am where exhibiting artists demonstrate their skills. In the afternoon from 1 – 4 pm, we will hold making opportunities at the Glass Box Studio with even more exhibiting artists.

We can’t wait to see you at the Museum soon and to have you in awe with the artworks on display during the fiftieth edition of Birds in Art on view through January 4, 2026!
