There’s No Party like a Volunteer Party

When you visit the Woodson Art Museum you can’t help but see the work of our volunteers. Our greeters welcome each visitor with enthusiasm, our docents lead expert tours, and our gardeners tend to our grounds with unwavering dedication. In short, our volunteers make the Museum a magical place to visit, and I was honored to spend the last week celebrating their work.

We started the appreciation week on Monday with our docents. Boly from Paint Party B joined us at the Glass Box Studio and guided both docents and staff members in painting our very own masterpieces. Everyone got in the creative spirit and produced their own interpretation of the project. Our docents typically lead others in art making, so it felt fitting that they were able to be the artists this time!

On Thursday I spent the afternoon with our volunteer gardeners, creating our own print blocks inspired by the natural world around us. Everyone was able to carve their own block and print it on a tote bag. Each print was unique and everyone left with a functional piece of art.

On Friday, Museum staff gathered at Willow Springs to celebrate our volunteer greeters. Our greeters are typically the ones welcoming visitors to the Museum, so it was fun to switch spots for the day and welcome them to the venue! We had a wonderful lunch filled with conversation and camaraderie.

During each of the volunteer celebrations, my appreciation for our volunteers only increased. The Museum truly benefits from their presence and I am so thankful to work with such wonderful people.
