Museum Reopens after Proactive Closure

Wausau, Wisconsin: The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum has reopened after a proactive closure during the region’s coronavirus surge. All safety measures remain in place: mask wearing, physical distancing, and sanitizing; learn more here. Before visiting during regular Museum hours, always admission free, please check www.lywam.org for any updates.

The “Birds in Art” 2020 exhibition, which was on view September 12 until the Museum’s temporary closure in early October, is extended through Sunday, February 21, and includes artwork by the Museum’s 2020 Master Artist Timothy David Mayhew. “From My Space to Yours,” an exhibition of photographs of “Birds in Art” artists’ studio work spaces, also remains on view, along with collection exhibitions: “Art of the Hunt,” “Modern Menagerie,” and “Cast, Carved & Cut.”

In Art Park – the Museum’s re-imagined, interactive family gallery – Museum staff devised hands-free, visual-engagement opportunities for all ages and I Spy prompts and clues for younger visitors.
• Mini Makes are miniature versions of museum experiences and exhibitions, such as “Micro Modernism,” created by the Museum staff Wee Build Workshop and complemented by brief videos.
• Makers’ Mediums features studio materials and artists’ tools that replace touchable interactives and enhance “From My Space to Yours.”

The birdhouse-inspired Stop-by Studio on the Museum’s campus is always open and stocked with Art Kits and books, free to keep or share.

In the Museum’s sculpture garden and grounds, go on a seek-and-find sculpture quest, using a map with riddles as clues to find six small-scale sculptures.

For virtual sources of diversion and inspiration anytime, the Museum’s online offerings, – including a “Birds in Art” overview video, Activity Guide, webinar presentations, videos featuring insights from “Birds in Art” artists, Art Kit sheets, a Mini Makes video series, and online jigsaw puzzles featuring collection artworks – are available here: https://www.lywam.org/learn-do/digital-resources/

The “Birds in Art” full-color catalogue, featuring an essay about the 2020 Master Artist, is available for purchase at the Woodson Art Museum and online here: https://shop.lywam.org/catalogues
