Join the Woodson Art Museum to explore one of America’s favorite art destinations. Opportunities abound to dive deep into the art of the southwest exploring indigenous, wildlife, and contemporary arts and touring the area’s renowned institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, Santa Fe Opera House, and the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. We will even have a little slice of the Woodson while in Santa Fe with New Mexican and Birds in Art artist, Timothy David Mayhew joining us for a day.
Interested in traveling with us? Consider the highlights of our Santa Fe Art Scene itinerary.
Gather with your fellow travelers in the heart of Santa Fe at the historic hotel, La Fonda on the Plaza, which will be our home base for the duration of the trip. At the Susan Eddings Perez Gallery on Canyon Road, we will receive a warm welcome with an exclusive reception with live mariachi music, dinner with the artist and gallery owners, and food and wine pairings prepared by a local chef.
On day two, we travel to Taos along the rugged roads of the stunning Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the Santa Fe Opera House before hitting the road and explore the unique blend of cultures, styles, and heritage in Taos’ historic district, which has served as a hub for artists since the early 20th century.
Back in Santa Fe on the third day of the trip, we will spend the day with Timothy David Mayhew, an award-winning wildlife artist who has exhibited extensively in Birds in Art and was honored by the Woodson Art Museum as the Master Wildlife Artist in 2020. Throughout the day, we will be immersed in native and contemporary arts with tours at the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA), the New Mexico Museum of Art Vladem Contemporary, and Site Santa Fe, and meet with indigenous artists using art as advocacy in the eclectic Santa Fe Railyard Arts District. The day concludes with a hands-on class and authentic southwestern cuisine prepared by an expert chef at the Santa Fe School of Cooking.
Immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes that inspired Wisconsin born artist, Georgia O’Keeffe, the “Mother of American Modernism” on the fourth day of our adventure. We will tour the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, which has the largest single collection of the artist’s work and the grounds of Ghost Ranch, where O’Keeffe lived and painted many of her best-known landscapes over five decades. We will then celebrate the conclusion of the trip with a meal at the Santa Fe Plaza.
