You’re probably thinking, “what do websites, exhibitions, and gardens have in common?” The short answer is nothing. But, for the Museum, these are all things that have seen recent changes! With the launch of a new website, opening two new exhibitions, and breaking ground on upgrades to the Museum’s gardens, we’ve been busy to say the least.
Just over a month ago, the Museum officially launched its new website. The year-long process consisted of combing through over 100 pages of content, shuffling through many Post-it notes to create smooth navigation, and many rounds of editing. While the new site is stunning, it also helps reach our existing and new audiences with ease, boasting enhanced technology making sure we are at the top of all online searches related to art, museums, and the Wausau area.
On Saturday, two new exhibitions opened for visitors to experience. Double Exposure: Community Portraits is an immersive exhibition featuring the work of Hmong American artist Pao Houa Her. In this exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to interact with portrait photography and explore themes like community, migration, resilience, and the ongoing process of self-definition.

Sacred Nature takes you on a photographic journey through landscapes such as the savannahs of Africa and the jungles of Asia, bringing you up close and personal with a variety of animals in their natural environments. Wildlife photographers and conservationists Jonathan and Angela Scott invite viewers to explore the connection between humans and the natural world, highlighting the need for environmental preservation. Both Double Exposure: Community Portraits and Sacred Nature are on view now through August 24.

Along with new exhibitions comes a calendar full of new programs and events for all ages and life stages, including an artist residency with Pao Houa Her July 14 through August 1. Be sure to check out our new and improved online events calendar for a full list of offerings this summer.
If you’ve visited the Museum in the last week, you may have noticed some commotion outside the main entrance. This is all part of a reimagining of the lower gardens which will allow for more accessibility throughout the outdoor space and even more beautiful landscaping to venture through.

We are excited for you to experience all the “new” things the Museum has to offer. We hope to see you online, in the galleries, or out on the grounds soon!
