More About School Tours

We invite your class to participate in as many experiences and art tours in Wausau at the Woodson Art Museum as you’d like. Each tour will focus on the current exhibition, and we can tailor the details of your tour to support specific classroom curriculum. Include these details when filling out the initial form, and we’ll discuss them further when we contact you to set up your tour.

When you schedule a docent-led school tour, our docents will help facilitate personal encounters with our artwork through storytelling and interactive questions. Our school tours can also be customized to include a hands-on art-making component related to exhibition themes.

With your help, our educators and docents work together to encourage these skills in students:

  • Critical thinking
  • Close observation
  • Visual analysis
  • Creativity
  • Art appreciation
  • Articulating and supporting opinions
  • Confidence

In addition to enhancing the personal lives and art appreciation for students, we want to help shape the next generation of Museum visitors and advocates for cultural experiences.

Self-Guided Visits

Self-guided visits give your group time for reflection and independent exploration. Your group can wander through our galleries at your own speed and spend more time with the artworks that interest you most.

Additionally, we have Activity Guides and Art Kits that are intended for all ages and are available to further enhance your experience. We also encourage visitors to bring a notepad and pencil to sketch or journal about their experience.

Check out these suggestions and prompts for a more meaningful self-guided tour at the Woodson Art Museum.
