Family Fest Features Open-Air Art Making

Tuesday, August 13 through Tuesday, August 20, 2013

WAUSAU, WISCONSIN: The third-annual Family Fest, a weeklong art-making festival at the Woodson Art Museum, features different mediums each day beginning Tuesday, August 13 and culminating with an expanded Toddler Tuesday offering art projects, family yoga, and music-making on Tuesday, August 20.

Making art “en plein-air” – French for “in the open air” – is the theme for this year’s Family Fest, which encourages families to practice healthy habits together: art making and museum visiting, as well as being outdoors, exercising, and eating well.

Drop by during regular Museum hours – Tuesday-Friday, 9 am- 4 pm; Saturday and Sunday, Noon-5 pm – be inspired by sculpture garden scenes and sample a different art medium each day – watercolors, pastels, window paints, and more!

Tuesday, August 13 – pastel

Wednesday, August 14 – watercolor

Thursday, August 15 – pencil

Friday, August 16 – charcoal

Saturday and Sunday, August 17-18 – window paints

Tuesday, August 20 – watercolor

Family Fest wraps up on Tuesday, August 20, and includes an Extra-Terrific Toddler Tuesday, 10:30 a.m.-Noon, when little ones, 18 months-4 years, siblings and accompanying adults sample art-making and movement-themed stations. River Flow Yoga instructor Mary Hilliker leads family yoga sessions, and Forte Creative Culture instructor Jenny Bellmer Callope guides musical instrument use to echo nature sounds and encourage movement.

Family Fest is part of a national initiative, Let’s Move! Museums & Gardens, launched by First Lady Michelle Obama and the Institute of Museum and Library Services to promote healthy food choices and physical activity through interactive programs. The Woodson Art Museum joins more than 630 participating institutions nationwide. For more information about the initiative, visit http://www.imls.gov/about/letsmove.shtm

Funding for Family Fest summer programs comes from Ministry Health Care and River Flow Yoga.
