Rear Windows

By: Matt Foss on June 18th, 2014

Last summer, my wife and I went on a date to an outdoor showing of the Alfred Hitchcock classic Rear Window. For those who haven’t seen it, I briefly will summarize: Jimmy Stewart is temporarily in a wheelchair and watches his neighbors to pass the time. He sees something suspicious and tries to solve the mystery, all while keeping the ravishing and elegant Grace Kelly (who is madly in love with him) at bay.

Although my wife and I had seen the film several times, we were in the midst of several college students who apparently hadn’t seen it before, because they were on the edge of their lawn chairs and blankets during each suspenseful moment with Jimmy, Grace, and the sinister Raymond Burr. It was almost more fun to witness others’ reactions than to watch the film itself.

Speaking of windows, (how’s this for a transition?) the Woodson Art Museum is replacing the exterior windows in the original part of the building. Several decades have passed since the windows were replaced, so it’s time for a change. Although many visitors might not notice the windows in the south portion of the Museum,
they are important to the Museum’s overall look.

Familiar faces will be working on this Museum project during the summer months. The windows will come from Wausau’s own Kolbe & Kolbe, and our trusty partner The Samuels Group once again will supply the labor. With yours truly coordinating the project, it will be done by the time the 39th Birds in Art opens on September 6.

Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca

This year, my wife and I plan to see Casablanca when it’s shown in downtown Wausau later this summer. With the window project underway, staff might be able to say “Here’s looking at you” and mean it!

Or: Does this mean I’ll be setting up a black market for letters of transit next summer?
