The galleries and grounds are blooming with various botanicals, and Museum programming is blossoming again. I am looking forward to a bustling summer calendar with no homework assignments or gradebooks in sight.

Wu-Lang Clan

I can’t resist a good opportunity for a pun. Iconic and revolutionary hip-hop artists, the Wu-Tang Clan shaped their genre and used the written word to write and re-shape the legacy of East-Coast rap. I’m a fan of artists Jiangmei Wu and Robert J. Lang (hence “Wu-Lang Clan”), both featured in Above the Fold and both visiting the Woodson Art Museum and kicking off 2020 in innovative and grand style.

Adventures in Kiln Sitting

Like many people, I learn best by doing. For years, my knowledge of ceramics was minimal and I hadn’t really considered pottery since I was a pre-teen taking classes at Chicago’s Lill Street Art Center. That all changed about six months ago when I revisited ceramics in preparation for the Woodson Art Museum’s summer exhibition, Nature, Tradition & Innovation: Contemporary Japanese Ceramics, on view through August 27.
