On October 5, 2011, I began my journey as a Woodson Art Museum educator. To the Woodson Art Museum, all I can say is thank you for the memories, the friendships, the growth, and the time well spent over the past decade plus.

New Year, New Team, Same Support

2023 is off to a busy and promising start at the Woodson Art Museum with new staff members hitting the ground running and all hands on deck working together to offer meaningful programs for the north central Wisconsin community.
New Docents Join the Ranks

This August, in between Birds in Art preparations and programming, the Woodson Art Museum staff offered new-docent training classes for a group of six community members. These enthusiastic and insightful future docents comprise two former physicians, an artist, a lawyer, a designer and amateur botanist, and a retired salesman who served as the Museum’s former fire extinguisher training instructor.
Summer Art Session Success

Mid-July marked the return of the Woodson Art Museum’s popular Summer Art Sessions for young artists ages five through eight and nine through twelve.
Abundant Future’s cultivated plant subjects and artist Ginny Ruffner’s imagined botanical landscape served as inspiration for half-day sessions of art making in the Museum’s classroom studio and sculpture garden. The younger “Micro-Greens” worked in two-dimensions while older participants focused on three-dimensional projects.
A Pear, a Pepper, and a Peapod Walk into a Workshop

Art Park, the Woodson Art Museum’s interactive gallery, is arguably one of the most popular spaces at 700 N. 12th Street.
While the spring glass exhibitions are well underway, team Art Park is now focused on our next round of re-landscaping for the summer exhibition, Abundant Future: Cultivating Diversity in Garden, Farm, and Field. Abundant Future consists of botanical artworks depicting cultivated plant species such as eggplants, radishes, and ancient grains like millet and sorghum.
Glad to Be in the Galleries

This winter, I’ve welcomed opportunities to work with visitors in the galleries, from Art Cluster students to a first-year class from the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Central Wisconsin campus. No matter the group, I always enjoy conversing about art on view and learning what appeals to different audiences.

An Invitation to Create

Next week, sculptor Tom Hill returns to the Woodson Art Museum for a multi-week residency, and he’d like to work with you! Tom invites visitors and community members to create wire birds, which will comprise a large flock, reflecting the impact of creative collaboration.
